Pond Life
Flora A wide range of aquatic and marginal plants grow in and around the ponds e.g. bull rushes, ragged robin, lady's smock, soft rush, marsh marigold, meadow sweet, yellow flag iris, water mint, duckweed, water plantain, water forget-me-not, greater spearwort, common hornwort, water crowfoot, Canadian pondweed,
Fauna The ponds are home to water shrews and many hundreds of frogs, toads, and palmate newts visit in spring to spawn. Many types of insects such as water boatmen and damsel-flies live in or on the water. All these creatures and plants provide food for the wide variety of birds that are attracted to the ponds; of which the heron is the largest and every year moorhens and ducks breed on the islands.
